Michael Joe "M.J." Harris, age 50, of Columbiana, AL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was a devoted husband, father, and son, as well as an active business and community leader of Shelby County.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. A Celebration of Mike's Life and Legacy will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, followed by burial at Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Columbiana.

Michael Joe "M.J." Harris, age 50, of Columbiana, AL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was a devoted husband, father, and son, as well as an active business and community leader of Shelby County.

Mike was president and owner of his family's commercial construction business, M.J. Harris Inc. He was a proud graduate of Auburn University in Building Science, and held a seat on the AU Industrial Advisory Board. He was recently inducted into the AU Chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi Industrial Construction Honor Society.

Mike was born in San Antonio, TX, but grew up just outside Birmingham, AL. He was the consummate cowboy who loved the outdoors, especially western horse-riding and all kinds of hunting. One of his other favorite passtimes was watching western movies at home with his wife and children.

Mike was predeceased by his mother, Irene Harris, and his sister, Karen D. Harris. Survivors include Mike's wife, Cyndee W. Harris; his father, Bobby Harris; one daughter, Madee Harris; two sons, Remee Harris and Aree Harris; sister-in-law, Lisa Walker (Brian); brother-in-law, Rodney Williams (Deborah); one niece, Laney Williams; and nephews, Christopher Hendon (Kim), Tyler Hendon (Meghan), and Brian Walker (Kristen).

Memorial gifts may be made for Pediatric Oncology at Children's Hospital of Alabama.
