Lonnie Norton Adams, Jr. of Alabaster, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Lonnie was born to Lonnie, Sr. and Tula Adams in Chattanooga, TN. Lonnie enlisted into the U.S. Navy in October 1940. He served as a Gunners Mate First Class on the naval ships Eberle, Tillman and Strong during WWII. Lonnie was honorably discharged from active duty in February 1946. He made Birmingham, AL his home along with his wife Tenniss and three children. He worked as a printer at Oxmoor Press for over thirty years. He then worked as a security guard...

Lonnie Norton Adams, Jr. of Alabaster, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Lonnie was born to Lonnie, Sr. and Tula Adams in Chattanooga, TN. Lonnie enlisted into the U.S. Navy in October 1940. He served as a Gunners Mate First Class on the naval ships Eberle, Tillman and Strong during WWII. Lonnie was honorably discharged from active duty in February 1946. He made Birmingham, AL his home along with his wife Tenniss and three children. He worked as a printer at Oxmoor Press for over thirty years. He then worked as a security guard for the Social Security Administration until his retirement at the age of 80. Lonnie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Tenniss Yvonne Stuart Adams; parents, Lonnie N. Adams, Sr. and Tula Allison Adams; sisters, Billie Adams, Helen Burton and Joanie Phillips. He is survived by his children, Stuart Adams (Sheila), Sandra Guthrie and Susan Tkacik (David); grandchildren, Greg Adams (Michelle), Dr. Ed Guthrie, Yonna Davis (Dr. Keith Davis), Adam Yarbrough (Tracy), Stuart "Stu" Adams, Christopher Yarbrough and Leah Tkacik. Also left to cherish his memory are his ten great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. The celebration of Mr. Adams' life will be at 1pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham with visitation beginning at noon. Burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer.
