Fanelle Barnes Hennessy, 85 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Fanelle was a loving mother and grandmother. She was born on April 19, 1932 in Eutaw, AL. Fanelle was a graduate of Montevallo High School, attended Auburn University, and graduated from Samford University in Education. She taught Art at Mountain Brook Junior High School. She was the assistant manager for Black's Department Store for 16 years. She was active at Second Presbyterian where she prepared communion and helped with weddings. She will be missed. Fanelle Barnes Hennessy, 85 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Fanelle was a loving mother and grandmother. She was born on April 19, 1932 in Eutaw, AL. Fanelle was a graduate of Montevallo High School, attended Auburn University, and graduated from Samford University in Education. She taught Art at Mountain Brook Junior High School. She was the assistant manager for Black's Department Store for 16 years. She was active at Second Presbyterian where she prepared communion and helped with weddings. She will be missed. The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to Lindsay Pruitt and Morningside Memory Care. They gave Fanelle love and companionship in her last years and we will be forever grateful to them.

Mrs. Hennessy is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Haywood Barnes and Virginia White Barnes; husband, Joseph Doyle Hennessy; daughter, Grace Hennessy Beckham Carr; brother, Robert Haywood Barnes; sister, Olive Barnes Lee (Lewis); and brother-in-law, Robert Lyman. She is survived by her son, Thomas Andrew Hennessy (Kathleen); son-in-law, Robert A. Carr; sister, Virginia Barnes Lyman; and grandchildren, Cameron Carr Pearce (Andrew), Virginia Carr Hamilton (Cory), Melissa Hennessy Dougherty (Neil) and Joseph Breckenridge Hennessy (Rebecca Leigh White, fiancé).

The celebration of Fanelle's life will be at 11:30am on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
